
Stefano Flavoni
CONDUCTOR
Stefano Flavoni is an Italian-American conductor whose wide-ranging repertoire spans symphonic, operatic, contemporary, and early music.
He is currently Assistant Conductor of Staatsoper Hamburg, where upcoming productions include Luisa Miller, Madama Butterfly, Il trovatore, Maria Stuarda, La traviata, Tosca, and Ruslan and Ljudmila, Stefano has recently assisted at the Bayerische Staatsoper on Ligeti’s Le Grand Macabre and in Hamburg in productions of Tristan und Isolde, Ariadne auf Naxos, Die fliegende Holländer, Elektra, Boris Godunov, Trionfi, and Peter Grimes.
On the concert stage, he has served as an assistant and cover conductor with the New York Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, and the Lakes Area Music Festival, where he also assisted on The Rake’s Progress, Don Pasquale, and Ariadne auf Naxos, as well as conducted several opera aria concerts.
Dedicated to education, Flavoni has worked with the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, served as Music Director of the San Francisco Arts Education Project, and coached young singers at the Lakes Area Music Festival Vocal Fellowship. A passionate advocate of early music, he also appears as a harpsichordist in recital with singer colleagues.
He is a recipient of multiple Solti Foundation U.S. Career Assistance Awards, the 2025 Elizabeth Buccheri Opera Prize, and was a candidate for the 2025 Forum Dirigieren German Conducting Award. He studied at UC Berkeley under David Milnes and has worked closely with Kent Nagano, Manfred Honeck, and Herbert Blomstedt.
