TENOR

South Korean tenor Junho Hwang is quickly establishing himself as one of the most promising young voices of his generation. He recently won Second Prize at the prestigious Concours musical international de Montréal (CMIM) and is set to make his role debut as Tamino in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, where he is a member of the Young Artist Program. Previous appearances at the house include Goro in Madama Butterfly, Trojaner in Idomeneo, Capitano in Simon Boccanegra, the Four Squires in Parsifal, Gastone in La traviata, and Flavio in Norma.

He is also a laureate of major international competitions, having won 3rd Prize at the Mirjam Helin Competition, 3rd Prize at the Otto Edelmann Competition, and 1st Prize at the International Singing Competition of Italian Opera. At the 2023 Competizione dell’Opera he was awarded the Alessandro Ariosi Prize, the Holleander Calix Prize, and the Aydin Ustuk Prize. Further accolades include a Special Prize at the Geneva Competition, 1st Prize at the KBS KEPCO Music Competition, as well as distinctions at the Suri Music Concours, Daegu Music Concours, and Korean Voice Concours.

His repertoire already encompasses Rodolfo in La Bohème and Alfredo in La traviata, and he continues to expand into leading roles of the Italian and German repertoire. He studied at Seoul National University and is currently pursuing his Master’s degree at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin. He is supported by the SeAH Woon Hyung Lee Foundation.
